Want to help make CHTV better?

No more downloading each and every demo? No more slow downloads?

Donations will go to the advancement of CHTV. Simply send a donation thru the paypal link on the right side of the site.
Make a donation and I will gladly send you a DVD full of demos.


Please be sure to add the option you wish to receive with your donation along with your address and I will mail the DVD(s) to you as fast as I can.

I was thinking CHTV could utilize some of the community elitist opinions and have a vote on the "best duel" on certain maps. These duels would then be rendered to YouTube and have an official Challenge-TV channel on YouTube as a way of cross promotion.

That is a good point. And I hope it was just that, a threat. Anyway, I've been "leeching" demos out of this demo oriented site for years. In the matter of fact, I barelly play QW anymore, but I do like it. A lot. It just like soccer for me. I can't really play, but I enjoy watching the pros. Well, not really like soccer, since it has too much catching up with the times ahead of it, but I hope you got the point. The fact is, closing CHTV or not (I sure hope NOT), I'll payback a little. If possible I'll also try to donate a little for the next QH Lan. I just care too much. I can't allow QW to die without at least trying to help.

If you don't want to donate because you don't think it will make a difference for the future, why not look at it as buying a copy of all the demos for just $25. In fifteen years time when you suddenly get a pang of nostalgia and want to check out the EQL finals from whenever, it'd be pretty sad if you couldn't find them online and regret not paying the tiny amount to own a copy of the most comprehensive collection of QW demos in the world. Is it literally just files on a disc, or is there a version of the website which you can open for searching/navigation? If the former, I'm guesing the filenames are fairly descriptive? I'm just asking out of curiosity as I'll be donating either way. Another way of looking at it... I'd happily have paid $0.50 for most of the 4v4 demos I've downloaded over the years, and that would easily add up to way more than $25. Come on just click on the button and forget about it, you can afford it.

I donated to CHTV. Even if it dies tomorrow, I feel justified in donating. Over the years, over the better part of a decade, CHTV has supplied my thirst for an obsession: quake. It has fueled flames, created friendships, antagonised some and befriended others, and overall continued the great drama that is quakeworld. It has been some very good times. This is just my way of paying back. And I do hope CHTV continues, and that Donking's dreams are realised.

And of course I'm not even talking about beyong quakeworld, which CHTV has also nurtured -- cpma, quake3, etc... And that is really DK's vision, to get this site to become the hub for demos. SDA was able to do that, to go from quake speedrunning, to speedrunning of all kind. It is a long and hard journey, and I don't know how to do it. But it would be great.

darff, right now it is just a dvd of demos, Quakeworld for example is 4 dvd's. I do have a lot more demos not uploaded to chtv and a lot of fans that want to add their collection also. CHTV currently holds about 22,000 demos, if CHTV gets to where I want it, that number can easily double. One day I want it to hit 100,000. I remember about 8 years ago, CHTV was hosted on a 17 gig hd. HD space now is easy to get, heck it's almost free. Someone needs to come up with a program that allows you to watch all these demos without installing the game.. yeah I know you can convert them to avi but trust me, it is a long process to convert just one demo... Thanks Guys!

To my knowledge this site has not been promoted to many of the new Quake players (QL'ers) on their official forums. Perhaps introduce it there in the appropriate section, detailing Challenge TV history and where your going. I bet you gain more activity by doing so.

You should charge people for downloading demos or uploading demos. Something ridiculously low such as one cent or euro for each demo through some system on your site. Does not seem much but it should begin to add up too enough money to keep everything running and some left over for yourself. Most other sites that are still running have some form of for profit system. Without that you will most certain go under and everything you worked on will never be remembered.
