Community Supported Tournament

I would like to organize and run some tournaments for multiple games, first off, Quakeworld because I know how much the community cares about the game. I have never come across a more dedicated community than us QW players.

I would like to run an ONLINE duel tournament with some cash prizes. Where would the cash come from you ask? YOU, the community, the fans, you rich guys that would like to donate some green.

All money donated would go to the winners, depending on the amount collected, the top 3 or 5 would walk away with a bit of cash. The winners would be paid immediately through paypal.

I am willing to donate my time if you guys are willing to donate the money. I would first like to get your input before I beging collecting funds. What are your concerns?

Perhaps some entrancefee to be able to participate, 50sek/5euro per player might be suitable? I like the idea, and would donate some smaller amount of money=)

I would rather not force an entry fee. I am not asking for an entry fee, I want sponsors to donate the prize money. You do not have to participate or even play quakeworld. If you are a fan and want to watch some great players go at it or you are a kind rich person who wants to donate then this is your motivation.

something differnet, when you will be converting the whole website to it's new look and engine etc and old one won't be available anymore, please, don't forget to copy comments under demos from the old interface to the new one, it would be a great loss... and bac kto the tournament, cool idea :>

I am far from being rich, but as I don't give a damn crap about any "real world" sports at all, I *do* like to spec good tournament qw matches, so I could imagine to donate money to really good qw players out there. I don't really like PayPal, though, so I'd rather pay in some other way; but how? *shrugs*

Nice idea, make it! But summer not best time for it, September/October would be fine.

I've been following QW scene on and off since QHLAN1. I'll donate some money to watch people play, as long as SOMEONE grabs and organizes those demos from all the matches. I KNOW I wont be able to watch them all live. I work too, for a living.

This is a nice initiative that I had completely missed out on. I think donating money is a good idea that should've been used a lot more than it has (has it ever been used?). I would however prefer to donate money to prizes for the high profile tournaments like Ownage or the upcoming QHLAN tournaments. It would be nice to see what different options of payment there are for such a thing. Just like the anonymous german writes a few lines above me I don't like Paypal either, would rather see the money go to a bank account. Cheers
