Interview with puppetmasta

[Titan] Hi, I'm Titan with Challenge US. :)

[puppetmasta] hello titan :)

[Titan] I'd like to ask you a few questions on behalf of the Gaming Society.

[puppetmasta] ok sounds good to me, go ahead

[Titan] First of all, who are you?

[puppetmasta] ehhe well my name is Dave Knipp aka puppetmasta
[puppetmasta] im a student at the University of Missouri-columbia

[Titan] and you play Quake3 and CS? :)

[puppetmasta] no i just play quake 3. I recently quit my clan freestyle due to their lack of activity in quake 3
[puppetmasta] they have decided to focus on cs more...i really dont like the decision but i guess im not in the majority

[Titan] Oh..tell me, what was it like being in a LAN clan?

[puppetmasta] well a lan clan was fun
[puppetmasta] it went well for a while
[puppetmasta] bughouse,muiy,tropikal and i
[puppetmasta] played a few matches lanned from muiy and tropikal's "lan hut"
[puppetmasta] but when bughouse was booted from school and tropikal quit playing q3 it was pretty much downhill from there
[puppetmasta] we picked up assailant who lives in st. louis
[puppetmasta] so bug and he played from stl
[puppetmasta] and muiy and i played from columbia
[puppetmasta] so it was a "regional clan" after that :)
[puppetmasta] but now all they do is play cs, so im left without a choice :)

[Titan] I see. So, it wasn't the same feeling having a regional clan than a LAN one?

[puppetmasta] no not at all

[Titan] Was the LAN clan thing better, or worse?

[puppetmasta] everyone knows how much of an advantage lanning is especiall in tdm
[puppetmasta] i really liked it
[puppetmasta] it cut down on internet players
[puppetmasta] who we didnt know
[puppetmasta] so what we did in [o] was play the "best" people we could get
[puppetmasta] but we played who we knew in a lan clan

[Titan] Yeah. Did it also make the team a little stronger knowing one another on a real life basis?

[puppetmasta] yah i think so
[puppetmasta] since we knew each other
[puppetmasta] we knew each others styles
[puppetmasta] and what we would do most of the time
[puppetmasta] plus we have been playing with each other for a while now
[puppetmasta] since the test :)
[puppetmasta] Everything seemed to be going really well, until cs came along
[puppetmasta] and took the wind out of muiy playing quake 3
[puppetmasta] he was the cohesive force in our q3 division
[puppetmasta] as soon as he lost interest, it seemed to fall apart
[puppetmasta] we tried picking up jynx and ermac who are really close distance wise also, but that didnt solve the problem very well
[puppetmasta] it just led to them leaving when no one was playing
[puppetmasta] :/

[Titan] So basically CStrike tears another clan apart, it seems?

[puppetmasta] yah, definitely
[puppetmasta] i think it is really hard to play two games at once
[puppetmasta] at least from what i have seen
[puppetmasta] i dont know how cK and stx are holding up, but im sure cs will take them over in one way or another

[Titan] Why did you decide to NOT play CStrike with your clan?

[puppetmasta] well, i just dont like the nature of the game at all
[puppetmasta] its so like ra3 it makes me sick
[puppetmasta] im writing a column for chus on that right now, should be up soon :)
[puppetmasta] but also it was that i dont have the time to learn a new game
[puppetmasta] with quake 3 i could practice 2 hrs before a match and still do well
[puppetmasta] but i dont have the time to play a new game 8 hrs a day
[puppetmasta] for 6 mnths
[puppetmasta] like i did quake 3
[puppetmasta] hehe killed my gpa freshman year :)

[Titan] So what are your plans for the future, now that this LAN clan has fallen apart for you?

[puppetmasta] well, im planning on just playing quake 3 for fun
[puppetmasta] I'll play 1v1 and tdm just not in a league or with a clan
[puppetmasta] like in my spare time :)
