As you might already know, the SavageEuro Q3CTF Tournament for nations started today. We had a quick chat with ODEE, the head admin of this unique tournament who spilt the beans on the problems he has faced and the prospect for the Q3CTF community and LAN finals:
<Insanity> Week1 of the SavageEuro tournament has started today. How has the organisation gone so far?
<ODEE> The organisation has gone relatively smooth, but some captains have been lacking in their leadership. I mean, I'm chasing them to chase up their opponents , but I'm sure they will get the hang of it after week 1.
<Insanity> SavageEuro and all the captains have been announced in november. Have lot's of captains needed replacing?
<ODEE> Not as many as I had anticipated to be honnest. The home nations changed the most. We have had people moving overseas changing jobs, pc's breaking, etc etc...
<Insanity> Have you got a set of admins in place that you are happy with now?
<ODEE> I have offers from lots of admins with experience from all over Europe. Hopefully they are about when the games start, hehe. The majority will come from Savage's current admin base but a few Clanbase admins fancy it I believe
<Insanity> What about servers? Do you expect many arguments between countries over what server they play on?
<ODEE> Yes, I expect a few heated words on server selection but this happens anyway. Ive asked captains to have an idea of 3 servers to use in case of lag etc
<Insanity> What games are you looking forward too?
<ODEE> The last weeks games in each group, as I tried to match my selection of the top 2 for those games:
* Sweden vs Denmark
* England vs Scotland
* Germany vs Holland
* Belgium vs France
<Insanity> Who do you fancy winning the competition?
<ODEE> Belgium, since they started practicing for this tournament back in November, as soon as they heard
<Insanity> Where are the LAN finals being held?
<ODEE> I'm not sure... Slave is due to announce this tomorrow, I hope
<Insanity> How many teams get to go to the Finals?
<ODEE> It will be SavLan 2. SavageUK plan to get all the Semi Finalists to the lan. The lan will be an open event, I believe, with paying customers
<Insanity> Has finding sponsorship been tough?
<ODEE> yes
<Insanity> Were u expecting it to be this tough?
<ODEE> Since Barrysworld went into receivership, that really was a bad day for SavageEuro
Slave has been working hard to find sponsers though, and I believe he is in final negotiations with a large sponser
<Insanity> How do u think SavageEuro will help the Q3CTF community?
<ODEE> I think SavageEuro has already helped the CTF community by bringing clans and players from all around Europe closer together. Take Iceland, for example: everyone knows clan MurK, PhD and ice, but once I eventually got into irc in iceland I found 400+ players in their national Q3 room CTF players deserve recognition as there are some classy players out there who only play ctf and never have the chance to shine in the headlines because DM and 1v1 take it all
<Insanity> Best of luck to all the teams for their games in Week 1.
