| Muiy: Well, first off, how long have you been playing quake? |
Haze: I started in 97, and I stopped mid 98. Then, I picked it up again about 4 months ago
| Muiy: Did you try quake3 at all? |
Haze: Yea I play it on the weekends when I can, I got a to internet cafe here in Edmonton called pointblank gaming. My computer that I have at home is to slow to run q3, and I don't have a 3dfx card.
| Muiy: if you had the choice, would you play q3 instead of q1? |
Haze: If I had the choice.. I would probably play quake3 becuase I have alot of friends there. I've been playing qw too.. and I've made friends there to, so it's kind of a tossup, except there's money in q3. the fun factor in qw is definatly greater though.
| Muiy: Is it aggravating to play a game whose scene seems to be getting smaller and smaller? |
Haze: The only thing that annoys me is trying to find games, it takes alot longer. On the weekends that's not really a problem.. the qw scene is still big.
| Muiy: What's the process of "finding a game". Do you hop on pub servers? Or go around irc looking for ppl to play with? |
Haze: Well with smackdown currently in progress, we usually have team pracs against each other
| Muiy: Scheduled ahead of time, or can you just go to another clan's channel and get a scrim? |
Haze: If were just looking for a pickup, then we just look around on irc and servers. There's a couple of teams that can do it whenever, like I say.. It's not really hard to get games on the weekend.
| Muiy: What about the attention element of q3 versus q1. Smackdown is the biggest qw tourney in the u.s in a long time, but its still not getting a lot of attention from the hardcore gaming community. Is that a negative, or no big deal? |
Haze: It's not really that big of a deal, alot of the hardcore players are in smackdown, and are giving it there full effort. Most of the teams that are cuasing problems are the ones that don't have their minds really set on it.
| Muiy: What is it that makes q1 more fun than q3 for you? |
Haze: Well the gameplay is alot faster.. it takes alot more though in qw then it does in q3. qw is alot strategy.. and q3 I find is more aim. In quake3, they've tried to slow the game pace down alot.. I don't know if this was intentional, but it's a big minus for the fun factor.
| Muiy: how do your q3 skills shape up to your qw skills? |
Haze: I think quake3 is alot easier to play. i've only play quake3 about 10 times, and I can already beat some really good people. In quakeworld.. it takes alot of practice and knowhow, i guess this is becuase quakeworld requires more strategy then just aim.
| Muiy: You've beaten players such as? |
Haze: Well I have alot of friends from r3v/abuse/horde that I lan with at pointblank gaming, don't wanna give out as it might be a putdown towards someone. From those clans though, you can see they're good players.. not just your average joe.
| Muiy: Is there a different style of play in qw now than there was a year or two ago? |
Haze: Most definatly, I was watching a couple of demo's back when I was in pb (about a year ago) and the level of play has stepped up majorly.
| Muiy: In what aspects? |
Haze: Well ppl aim alot better now.. and predict player movements way better the way players use the shaft today is totally different from older qw days. The different jumps that players can do now especially the kteams mod. Bunnying is a big part of the game now.
| Muiy: I don't know if this will be hard to explain, but what do you mean by using the shaft differently? |
Haze: Well just the places that people would use it. For example.. back when I first started playing qw, on dm3 if there was an enemy in the water you would just fire rockets in the water, after a while people started useing shaft as they found it to be more effective. People are constatly getting smarter. what should i do in this situation and what weapon is most effective?
| Muiy: How is the smackdown tournament going? There's been plenty of teams quitting early.... |
Haze: Smackdown is going pretty good, there a great teams involved in the tournament. The teams that are dropping out early are the ones that really don't see themselves as having a chance to win it. So there attitude is "why waste our time".
| Muiy: What teams have a chance to win it all, and what team is going to win it all? |
Haze: Well there are 3 - 4 powerhouse teams in smackdown. I'd say they all have equal chance to win it, but naturally I'd have to go with my team American Gangsters. Others are Hidden Power, SAH, XX, LOD.
| Muiy: Did the us qw scene need a tournament to keep itself alive? |
Haze: I don't think it was on the verge of dying.. but a tournament can never hurt any
| Muiy: How did your team form? |
Haze: Well first off I asked a couple of q3 players from my old clan PB to play with me. Cujo, diehard and gibz agreed to play. Cujo didn't know that smackdown was going to take so long in getting organized.. and decided to drop out becuase he had to stay practice for q3 tourney in edmonton called fragapalooza and diehard got a new job about a week after we signed up The players on the team now are me, fuman, def, skitter, daw, snakes, gibz, jabba, and thrope.
| Muiy: Is there anything else you want to say about qw or smackdown? |
| Haze: Well I just wanna thank all the people involved in smackdown, and the people that keep it going. |
